ONE and HMM to Upgrade Joint Asia–Latin America Service "AX4/FLX" Starting April
Ocean Network Express (ONE) and HMM will upgrade their jointly operated Asia–Latin America "AX4/FLX" service starting April. The upgraded service will add Qingdao and Ensenada on eastbound voyages, and Callao and Guayaquil on westbound voyages.
HMM will rename the service to "NW4" to align with its naming convention for other services on this trade lane, including NW1, NW2 and NW3.
Updated Port Rotation (AX4/NW4):
Shanghai – Ningbo – Qingdao – Busan – Ensenada – Lazaro Cardenas – Manzanillo – Callao – Guayaquil – Shanghai
The service will deploy a fleet of 4,700 to 5,000 TEU vessels to provide weekly sailings.
The newly added ports carry clear strategic significance. The inclusion of Qingdao strengthens direct links between North China and the West Coast of Latin America, matching the growing export demand from manufacturing hubs in North China (e.g., home appliances, machinery) to Latin America.
The addition of Ensenada (Mexico), Callao (Peru) and Guayaquil (Ecuador) reflects carriers' strong focus on the Latin American market-especially Mexico's nearshoring trend and consumption potential on the West Coast of South America.
By expanding their network, the carriers aim to gain a competitive edge in the fast‑growing Latin America trade lane.
